I guess I have been "blogging" for a long time now. Not in the sense we all know it now but rather as a way of communicating internal information to our patients in the office. If you are not aware, I'm the CEO and Clinic Director for Spinalworx Chiropractic & Medical Centers. I have been helping people live active, pain-free lives for over ten years. You have to realize that as a clinician, I do not want to see people in pain. For me, preventing and avoiding problems all together is the best avenue. Now, the cynic says that if I did not have patients who had problems I would be out of business... Not so!
There in lies one of the main problems of our healthcare system (I won't get into healthcare reform now though). We actually have a sickcare system... We think there is only a problem when there is a symptom. That is wrong! Just think about it. What is the #1 cause of death in this country: heart disease. We've all heard about the negative effects of hypertension or high cholesterol and we have come to believe that those are the most common causes of heart disease. Well, think about the symptoms you get from high blood pressure or high cholesterol? There usually isn's any symptoms right. Well, sometimes you can tell when your blood pressure is up but most of the times you can't.
Also, do you that the majority of people who suffer a heart attack for the first time actually do not survive it. One could say that the first sign of heart disease is usually death. Do you want to wait for the signs of heart disease?
So, I want to help my patients prevent problems. And don't worry there is still a lot of business in prevention and maintaining spinal alignment as well as managing those injuries from an accident or fall. Having well-informed, educated patients has always been a staple in my practice, so writing articles about current health trends, preventative medicine, and just overall helpful topics has been going on for some time. Now I think it's time to spread our wings and use blogging as a way of communicating to the larger community.
I hope you find these blog post useful and send me some feedback. If there is anything you would like to have me discuss in particular, send me a message. Id' love to hear from you!
